Bio-Dynamic Farming

The main objective of this article is to share with you the correct definition of what is Bio-Dynamic Farming,--- also known as SuperOrganic or PermaCulture--- as well as its origins and history.

Labeled the First Real Green Movement, Bio-Dynamic Farming was conjured up in 1924 by an Austrian esotericist, philosopher, architect, scientist, and founder of the Waldorf School, Dr. Rudolf Steiner.

Steiner, who spent most of his life researching and investigating the forces that regulate life and growth, drafted up a series of lectures and conversations in June of 1924 held in Koberwitz, Germany, that looked upon the soil and the farm as living organisms.

His conclusions defined an unified approach to agriculture that not only relates to the ecology of the earth-organism, but to its connection to the entire cosmos. Steiner’s work was initially motivated after being approached by farmers concerned with seed fertility, crop health, depleted soil, and alternative animal natural care practices.

This first modern ecological farming system sees a farm as a whole living organism.
Think of a perfect mini eco-system in itself. An entirely self-contained and self-sustaining being that maintains its natural health and vitality while free from any external or unnatural additives.
It’s not only a plan that adheres to the basic and simple organic rules and practices we know. It’s an enhancement to farming which adds to the land and soil special plant, animal, fermented herbal and mineral preparations in accordance with an astronomical planting and sowing calendar that follows the rhythm of our sun, moon, stars, and planets.

Its basically spiking the land with our natural planetary gifts from Mother Nature to take us to a point of soil health and farming structure that surpass just simple organic practices.
This healthy self-supporting farming eco-system is the highest paradigm of sustainable farming today offering one of the smallest carbon footprint of any other agricultural method.
The non-profit ecological association Demeter, which consists of a network of individually certified organizations in 45 countries around the world, is the only certification agent for Bio-dynamic farms, processors, and products in the United States. Founded in Europe in 1928, Demeter was formed to support Steiner’s agricultural methods famously termed Biodynamic.

I urge consumers to join our plight in healing the planet by choosing Demeter certified Biodynamic products.
